Progress Report 4/17/2011

Konnichiwa!

If only the missing piece was this easy to find...

Hey guys! So unfournately half the blog is currently suffering from Writer's Block in the worst season for most writers. :P This also means that things will be going alittle slow on the blog. However, you still have reasons to check us out. To start, there will be a new scheduling system that we will be testing to mix things up. This should make things easier to get posts up everyday.

Secondly, The site has and will continue to get a makeover. You guys should send in your opinions on the sites new look, as well as suggests ideas for new topics for the return of discussions by yours truly.

Lastly, my books Pieces and Lacrime are having a few major plot changes. For example, Chloe no longer represents Old Age but Hopelessness, and Tim's name is no longer Tim but will be changed to Niccolò Capone, or as he goes by in the book Nic. There will also be many other major changes, such as extentions to existing chapters, and maybe even a name change to the whole book. As for Lacrime, Henry and Abbel will be getting name changes, as well some plot changes. Well that's all as of today, so check back soon for the upcoming week's post!

A Brief Vacancy

Konnichiwa!

So guys first on the agenda is our members are taking a universal break on the blog for spring break, so there will only be one post from yours truly in the next week. However, the good news is that it will have to do with Pieces, so that should give you some incentive to return this upcoming Friday. As for today though, I would like show you the new opening for Pieces! Enjoy!
------------------------------------------------
High School. Some call it the best point of your life. Others call it the toughest point. The remaining people are in-between however. What’s grand about this is none of them are wrong. Everyone point of view is technically right in their own way, because every man’s story is different. Everyone has a story, something that defines each individual: Their flaws, strengths, burdens and trails. There may be stories that are alike but never the same.

Nevertheless, the problem is many of these stories go untold, because Hollywood either ruins them or they are deemed unworthy of telling. The kid who gets his story in the papers in class is usually that athlete who came from nothing to become an All-American, and every now and then it’s about that kid beating all the odds. Rarely though have they been about that kid who would stay up past midnight working writing poems for that girl who would never acknowledge his presence, that girl who is forced to hold an image due to the fact girls are so selective about their friends, or that “creeper” boy who is honestly too nice for his own good. No, they always end up finding someone else or end up accepted in life. Yet, how many stories are about the person with no “excitement” to his/her life? About a life where happy endings are as rare as a decent live concert? Very close to none. Why? Because they’re boring, or maybe just the wrong person is telling the story.

You see good stories are made-up, but great stories can’t be scripted. The best writers in this world are the ones who can find these stories. They can take any person and turn their life story into a bestseller. Just like the true best chefs’ meals wouldn’t require any spice to the dish, a true great story wouldn’t require any fiction flare or extensive diction to go with it. For you see, I wish to write about those people no one seems to remember. I want to tell stories, not write them. In that sense, my characters are telling the stories, and gives life to every word I write down.

The best part about it is those pieces win Pulitzers as well.
---------------------------------------------

How'd you like it? It's just your first sample. ;) Come back Friday for another special piece. Until, remember to express your thoughts clearly and always put life into words.

Contest Stage 1: Who's Quote is it Anyway?

Konnichiwa!!!

Okay guys it is time for the first stage of my latest contest! OKay so here are the rules:
• The point of this stage is to find the movie, person, or book that said the according quote. There are 35 quotes in total.

• You can use any resource at hand except me, Orrin or Ania(The three judges) to solve the quotes.

• You don’t have to rewrite the entire quote, just the answer.

• When you believe you have all the correct answers, then send it to one of three emails address to be checked.

• If wrong, you will get a return email, telling you which ones are wrong, and you can ask up to three of the quotes to be corrected.

• If correct, unless you sent it to me, you will receive a code from one of the other two, which you MUST send as a private facebook or email message to me, Quinton Staten.

• drquinton@hotmail.com, ania_kaczka@att.net, o.mitchell99@yahoo.com are the three emails to send it too. Now you can send them to whoever, just know, if you send them all to me it will slow down the time it takes to get it back, and someone else might pass you up as a result. So be sure to send some to Orrin and Ania. They don’t bite. ;)

• The contest continues until August 20th, or until we have 64 overall people in the second round. Since Orrin and Ania were kind enough to assist me in this first stage, they will on to stage 2 automatically so only 62 spots are available! So get on those quotes! Here are the Quotes and Good Luck!

1.“You could run from someone you feared, you could try to fight someone you hated. All my reactions were geared toward those kinds of killers – the monsters, the enemies. When you loved the one who was killing you, it left you no options. How could you run, how could you fight, when doing so would hurt that beloved one? If your life was all you had to give your beloved, how could you not give it? If it was someone you truly loved?”
2.“After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.”
3.“Off with her head!”
4.“A lot of people give up just before they're about to make it. You know you never know when that next obstacle is going to be the last one."

5.“My momma always said, "Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."”
6.“You love playing with that. You love playing with all your stuffed animals. You love your Mommy, your Daddy. You love your pajamas. You love everything, don't ya? Yea. But you know what, buddy? As you get older... some of the things you love might not seem so special anymore. Like your Jack-in-a-Box. Maybe you'll realize it's just a piece of tin and a stuffed animal. And the older you get, the fewer things you really love. And by the time you get to my age, maybe it's only one or two things. With me, I think it's one.”
7.“You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure. But it doesn't matter - because we'll be together.”
8.“He's not your friend, he's ours! If somebody's gonna kill him, it should be us”
9.“Cut off a wolf's head and it still has the power to bite.”
10.“I… I am Tetsuo.”
11.“Say Hello to my little friend!”
12.“All right, now, I don't want them to gain *another yard!* * You blitz... all... night!* If they cross the line of scrimmage, I'm gonna take every last one of you out! You make sure they remember, *forever*, the night they played the ____!”
13.“I'll never let go, Jack. I promise.”
14.“They told me there was nothing out there, nothing to fear. But the night my parents were murdered I caught a glimpse of something. I've looked for it ever since. I went around the world, searched in all the shadows. And there is something out there in the darkness, something terrifying, something that will not stop until it gets revenge... Me.”
15.“If you can dodge a car, you can dodge a dodgeball.”
16.“I don't own emotion, I rent.”
17.“So you'd think a psychic would, uh, be on time. You know, like he could foretell if the traffic was going to be bad?”
18.“Anyone want to see a magic trick?”
19.“Hakuna Matata!”
20.“Yo, Rugman! Haven't seen you in a few millennia. Give me some tassel.”
21.“If real is what you can feel, smell, taste and see, then 'real' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.”
22.“This is Sparta!”
23.“A dog doesn't care if you're rich or poor, educated or illiterate, clever or dull. Give him your heart and he will give you his.”
24.“I try to open up to what I don't know, because reason says I should have died three years ago...”
25.“Tell your dog not to worry, sooner or later we all lose our balls.”
26.“Run Forrest Run!”
27.“Look, can you do me a favor-can you look out the window for a second? See my father? He's the guy in the green car? Let me tell you about a dream, a boy's dream, and a man's promise to that boy. He looked him in the eye and said "Son, I' gonna buy you a car, but I want you to bring me two-thousand dollars and three A's." OK, I got the two thousand and two A's. OK, here's the dream. Your B minus? Pfff! Dream gone. Kaput. Sir, just ask yourself... What would Jesus do?”
28.“I wonder what grass tastes like.”
29.“Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: "With great power comes great responsibility." This is my gift, my curse. Who am I? I'm Spider-man.”
30.“So you're a man who has everything, but nothing.”
31.“I hardly believe in ghost stories anymore, Captain Barbossa.”
32.“Does believing you're the last sane man on the planet make you crazy? 'Cause if it does, maybe I am.”
33.“My name is Robert Neville. I am a survivor living in New York City. I am broadcasting on all AM frequencies. I will be at the South Street Seaport everyday at mid-day, when the sun is highest in the sky. If you are out there... if anyone is out there... I can provide food, I can provide shelter, I can provide security. If there's anybody out there... anybody... please. You are not alone.”
34.“Wisdom is not measured by one’s age, nor their experiences, but how one handles those experiences.”
35.“So many people believe that you only have one life, and that you shouldn’t waste it away. If that’s true though, why do those same people waste your life forcing you to learn this shit right here, only to never use in your actual job.”

OH AND THE PRIZE TO THE TOP 3 FINISHERS OF STAGE 3 WINS..... COPIES FOR THE ENTIRE REY SAGA!!! GOOD HUNTING!!!!

And the Next Contest is....

Konnichiwa!!!!

Happy August 4th! Today is the day that I reveal the next of my glorious contests!!! But before I do, I must say that Chris will be at camp the next few days and will be unable to post his book review of An Clockwork Orange. So I will be holding down the fort until his return. With that said, lets get to the newest contest!!!

And the new contest is called.......
.....
.....
....

Connecting The Parts!!!!

Now I know you're thinking, what in the world could this mean? Well, this is a three part contest, each requiring a different prerequisite to move on to the next stage. The stages are named accordingly:

  • STAGE 1: Whose Quote is it Anyway?

  • STAGE 2: The Writer's Workshop

  • STAGE 3: Lining up The Pieces
Okay so first up will be Stage 1! In Stage 1 you will be tasked with finding who said a quote out of a list 35 qoutes I will hand out to you. You can use any source avaliable to you. Once you think you have found all of the woutes, you will email them to one of the email addresses I will hand out to you when the list is revealed, and if correct, you will receive a email telling you that you have moved on to Stage 2. If you haven't, then you will get a email telling you which ones are wrong. Stage 1 will continue until August 26th, or until we have 64 people with the correct answers. The list will be released August 9th at 7 p.m., so stay tuned until then!!!

Questions With Quinton

Konnichiwa!

So guys I am getting enough questions to the point I will now make this a weekly post, so now you'll be getting questions from me every Sunday. XD Okay lets get on it!

Are you going to put up anything on manga?

Well, manga is debatable on whether or not it is considered a true book. Although I myself read it, and since it does have a plot, setting, climax and all the other elements a book has, if I get enough requests I will consider doing it along side Chris and Tara if they thinks it would be okay.

Are you going to do another contest?

Yes I will. Very soon in fact. I just need to get some things prepared and finish some work for my editors and summer school. It will probably be announced in July, but there's a chance you hear bout it until early August, as I have a camp from July 16-24.

So is The Rey Saga a trilogy or a tetralogy?

It's now a Saga, which is a four book series. I think you might have meant a quadrilogy, though I'm unfamiliar with the correct term. I had to change it after the length of the first book hit over a thousand pages.

You should do a section where you review book for us to read!

I'm very aware that this isn't a question, but It's a very good point. I might work with Chris to see if he would like to do something like that. If so, is there any books you would like us to review? If so, send an e-mail to Chris and I at brinque@msn.com and drquinton@hotmail.com and we'll see what we can do. It'll only be once a month however, as we still have books to write and other activities.
